Wooden Boat Challenge

This is "the Superbowl of Boatbuilding... Only those who have seen it can begin to understand what drives these men and their thousands of annual spectators." Rob Dwelley, Wooden Boat Magazine

2008 Wooden Boat Challenge teams will build the Monhegan skiff, a 12 foot rowing skiff with a flat stern for motor mounting.

Two-man teams will compete in building this skiff. Cash prizes will be awarded based on speed of construction, quality of work, and rowing ability. The boatbuilding competition will be held form 12 to 4 pm. At 5 pm the teams will compete in a rowing relay on the Sampit River.

Registration - The competition is open to anyone who knows a thing or two about woodworking but will be limited to 20 two-man teams. A registration fee of $100 per team includes boatbuilding plans, boatbuilding materials, two official Wooden Boat Challenge hats, and two tickets for the awards ceremony and dinner. Dinner for family members or guests is $15 each. Contact the Harbor Historical Association at 1-877-285-3888 to register.
